THE CAKE TIN

NBR Stadium, Wellington, New Zealand

One of the highlights of New Zealand's entertainment calendar, Wellington's NBR Stadium Spectacular festival is a wonderful mix of music and madness.

Oceania Audio, one of Australasia's leading sound and lighting specialists, provided a vast range of sound reinforcement and recording facilities for the NBR Stadium Spectacular.

With the dubious nickname of The Cake Tin, the venue - which is actually constructed of corrugated iron - is notoriously difficult when it comes to sound reinforcement. 'It's a circular venue like the Coliseum, and the reflected sound is deeply problematic especiially for something orchestral,' says Oceania Audio MD Greg Peacocke. 'You can't just turn up the volume like we did with Robbie Williams in this venue last year. There's not a lot we can do to minimise the audio difficulties. The array of boxes delivers sound to every corner of the venue but it just bounces back again and becomes a horrible pile of reverberant dung!'
