Corrugated Iron as a Wildlife Habitat

Discarded sheets of iron are frequently used by a variety of species as a refuge. Snakes are often found curled up beneath or basking on it in the sun and small mammals such as wood mice and voles often use it's cover to provide a safe place to nest. This picture shows the nest, feeding remains and latrine of a water vole, one of Britain's fastest declining mammals. For more information on water voles please visit www.wildlondon.org.uk
