26.8.03 - The Ancient Monuments Society's August newsletter mentions your name as a contact for information on corrugated iron. We have been looking for a source of some new curved corrugated iron sheets in order to repair a little vernacular building near here. The existing curved corrugated roof is beyond repair and needs replacing. Would you be able to help us? ... CWLB, Building Contractor, Oxfordshire

5.8.03 -
I am attaching a photograph (left), taken in July 2003, of a "Corrugated Iron" Dutch Barn Roof, near Ammanford, South Wales. I would like to find a source of replacement sheets, for when the present ones become too corroded ... KT

31.7.03 - My first husband was the pastor, in about 1974, of a corrugated iron chapel in Norfolk that is now in the Rural Life Museum in Stowmarket, Suffolk. I thought nothing of it at the time. Then later, I met with my sister-in-law's WI in what is called the Iron Room in Eglwys Fach, near Machynlleth. About that time I started travelling regularly from Mid-Wales to Shrewsbury, and was fascinated by the vast farmyards in the area which are full of corrugated iron buildings! There must have been a corrugated iron rep whose pockets were fairly jingling!! - when? About the 1920s? Is there a history book about corrugated iron? ... J (no e-mail address provided)

27.7.03 - I and local residents are fighting a poorly designed affordable housing development at Buildings farm Great Dunmow Essex. Our fight is not against affordable housing but the way the development in excluding the 156 mainly flats from the other 1300 private dwellings. There was a beautiful wooden barn on the site but this got pulled down by the developer before a preservation order was even thought of. Next will be the Corrugated Dutch barn and this will happen very soon. The Developer Wickford Development has transferred the land to Estuary Housing Association based at Southend who now will be responsible for clearing the site. Any suggestions? ... PH

24.7.03 - I heard about your site from "The Archers"! I wonder if you know anything about the corrugated iron church opposite Kilburn Park underground station in Cambridge Avenue, NW6 [See pictures of this church in the Gallery]. I have driven past it many a time and puzzled about it. It is really distinctive! Thanks for any info ... FCR

23.7.03 - Please could you give me some information on how to go about preserving corrugated iron buildings. Our village hall is currently up for sale to be demolished and the plot used for building. It is early 1900s building in constant use at the moment ... HK

21.7.03 - WE have a brilliant World War II corrugated iron T1 hangar at Sheffield Bottom near Theale and Reading in Berkshire. There was an RAF training airfield here in the war. Now the site has been bought, and in spite of us making suggestions for its use, the developer is going to take it down and build offices., its been used for vehicle storage recently and doesn't look in bad condition so it seems a shame to lose a part of the area's history and replace it with yet more anonymous offices - we are surrounded by them (and most still vacant!) around here. Is there anything we can do? Do these buildings have any heritage value? What would be the chance of getting it listed?? In a hurry - the planning permission for his scheme was passed this week but still involves permission for a change of use at present. If you have any suggestions we'd love to hear! ... S & PG
