'the country': Aboriginal people typically refer to their land as their "country" which implies the land itself plus everything connected to it ­ people, language, environment, traditions, stories, spirituality. Indeed 'country' in Aboriginal English can be understood as being interchangeable with 'nation' in standard English.

Note: Typically, rather than land belonging to them, Aboriginal people understand themselves as belonging to the land and themselves in an inseparable relationship with it.
